Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF)

The AHF was founded in 1976 to promote the conservation of historic buildings in the UK. As well as providing advice and information for building preservation trusts and other charities interested in saving buildings. It is also a valuable source of grants and low interest loans for projects. In many cases securing AHF funding has been the first step for a successful project. http://www.ahfund.org.uk

Association of Preservation Trusts (APT)

The APT is the national body which supports the work of building preservation trusts. It currently has over 260 members within nine areas, one of which is Scotland. As well as encouraging the work of building preservation trusts, APT also aims to help provide a network of guidance and support amongst building preservation trusts. To increase public awareness of the achievements of building preservation trusts. Their website also highlights publications which may be of interest to those keen to start a building preservation trust. http://www.heritage.co.uk/apt

Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF)

The HLF is a non-departmental public body which distributes money raised by the National Lottery for Good Causes. It funds schemes which allow communities... widest sense, not only historic buildings and landscapes, but also museum collections, local traditions and customs. All of HLF's funds come from the sale of lottery tickets. http://www.hlf.org.uk

Historic Scotland

Historic Scotland is an agency within the Scottish Executive Education Department and is directly responsible to Scottish Ministers for safeguarding the nation's built heritage and promoting its understanding and enjoyment. Grants can be given to both public bodies and private owners to help towards the cost of repairing listed buildings. http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk

Pilgrim Trust

The Pilgrim Trust was founded in 1930 by Edward Stephen Harkness of New York. His vision was to give grants for "some of the country's more urgent needs and in promoting her future well being". The Trust funds projects which fall into it's identified priorities, which include social welfare, art and learning, preservation of architectural or historic buildings or structures and the cataloguing and conservation of historic records. The Trust generously awarded Alba a grant to help with outreach work in 2004. http://www.thepilgrimtrust.org.uk
