Alba Conservation Trust's (ACT) aims and objectives are to promote and encourage, either on its own or in conjunction with others, the protection and preservation of Scotland's historic, architectural and landscape heritage, to further the study of such heritage and make the information obtained available to others.
ACT achieves its aims by working in formal partnership with two "revolving funds" Building Preservation Trusts, Cockburn Conservation Trust (CCT) and Scottish Historic Building Trust (SHBT), of which ACT is the sole member. ACT holds the Group's Assets, employs the staff, formulates Group strategy, approves the annual budgets and operating plans of CCT and SHBT and ensures each has the resources required for these plans.
ACT also assists other organisations, principally but not solely Building Preservation Trusts (BPTs) in Scotland, that seek to save historic buildings for the benefit of the community. It does so by working with local groups to determine the best eventual use for the building, advising them through the funding process, sourcing contractors and architects, helping them take the project out to tender and overseeing the project on site. Through this and other work, ACT contributes to the development of the BPT movement in Scotland.
